We're seeking a Risk Management, Audits & Controversy Director. The successful candidate will manage and oversee tax controversy, lead the development and maintenance of processes to proactively assess and mitigate global tax risk across the tax life cycle and manage a staff of one. Significant experience in managing tax audits and controversies is essential. A strong knowledge of U.S. taxation of international transactions and working knowledge of tax systems in major countries throughout the Americas, EMEA and Asia and the ability to consult with tax advisors is critical.

  • Essential Responsibilities
    • Directs federal and state tax audit and controversy matters, including responses to information requests, evaluation of proposed adjustments, and defense of un-agreed tax positions in examination, appeals and litigation proceedings, as required
    • Monitor and collaborates s and provides strategic support and oversight regarding non-U.S. audit and controversy matters
    • Manages the identification, assessment and reporting of FIN48 tax reserves globally for the company
    • Advises and partners with tax compliance and planning groups in the management of tax risk, including the preparation and/or review of key tax return disclosures (e.g., Schedule UTP and Reportable Transactions)
    • Develops advance audit files and records management policies
    • Consults on matters of tax procedure
    • Manages and supports post-separation tax matters
    • Provides general tax research and analysis in support of various corporate functions, including the Executive Compensation/Human Resources, Legal, Payroll and Real Estate groups
  • Education
    • A bachelor's degree in tax, accounting, finance or a related discipline is required
    • An advanced degree, JD or MST degree is preferred
    • CPA preferred
  • Basic Qualifications
    • Twelve-plus years of experience in the sophisticated tax practice of a large corporation, law firm or accounting firm
    • Ability to adapt to frequently changing priorities and identify critical paths for resolution
    • Ability to work well both independently and as part of a cross-functional team
    • Ability to understand complex tax concepts and apply business facts
    • Ability to recognize key issues and effectively communicate those to management and service providers in an articulate and concise manner
    • Strong written and verbal communication skills
    • Strong interpersonal skills, including an ability and desire to communicate, collaborate and coordinate with others throughout the Tax, Legal and Finance organizations
    • Good business judgment and creative problem-solving skills
    • Self-motivated, with the ability to work independently and meet deadlines
    • Ability to multi-task
    • Excellent organizational and time management skills
    • A desire to work with others and share responsibilities in a team environment
