Job Description

Logistics Manager has total responsibility for the Shipping Department by scheduling, coordinating and supervising the activities of the department. This position reports directly to the Plant Superintendent.
Job Duties:

  • Supervises full truck and shipments, maintains communication with Sales and other departments concerning material pick-ups and deliveries.
  • Checks all rates and bills and checks rate schedule of common carriers.
  • Responsible for routine interaction with Sales and Manufacturing for planning and execution of customer shipments.
  • Plans and arranges overseas container packaging and shipments along with Sales department.
  • Determines and executes proper packaging requirements for shipment of various items.
  • Prepares truck-loading arrangements based on weight distribution and delivery sequence.
  • Knows status of all items in production.
  • Quality checks packaging, handling, and content of our outbound loads.
  • Manages inventory. Responsible for conducting routine cycle counts, and maintaining accuracy.
  • Responsible for warehouse housekeeping and organization.
  • Prepares variety of reports and forms related to shipping. Requisitions materials for traffic related items.
  • Traces lost or delayed shipments as well as materials obtained by Purchasing Department.
  • Supervises Loader(s): approves time off, assigns overtime, completes time sheets, makes reprimands when necessary and recommends discharge if warranted.
  • Negotiates freight rates with carriers (LTL, intermodal and TL).
  • Participates with Production Planning Team to improve both internal and external customer service levels.
  • Maintains active order file in order to efficiently plan daily shipping schedule.
  • Is subject to 24 hour call.
  • Maintains work area and equipment in clean and orderly condition.
  • Works extended hours if needed to satisfy customer/company needs.
  • Performs other duties as directed.

Education and/or Experience

  • High School Diploma
  • At least three years of dispatching, logistics, shipping or related experience.
  • Experience in a manufacturing or factory environment a plus.

  • Must pass a drug screen, physical and criminal background check.
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States.
  • Excellent computer skills and proficient in Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.
