In-House Employment and Ethics Counsel

Reporting Structure

This position will report to the Associate General Counsel, Labor and Employment, and Chief Ethics Officer for Conduent Business Services. This position will provide advice and counsel on a wide variety of employment related matters and workplace issues to Human Resources, management and business clients for various business units. Additionally, this position will provide case management and support on ethics cases and employment related litigation matters.
Responsibilities


  • Serves as legal business partner to Human Resources professionals and management to advise and ensure compliance with state and federal employment and labor laws, company policies, directives and operating procedures, including, but not limited to, discipline, performance management, reorganizations, leaves of absence, accommodations, wage and hour issues, terminations, compliance training, background checks, non-competes, contingent workforce issues, due diligence for acquisitions and divestitures, and employment aspects of outsourcing agreements.
  • Responds to attorney letters and state and federal administrative charges, complaints and audits, including handling mediations and fact-finding conferences.
  • Proactively identifies trends and gaps in processes and partnering with Human Resources and business clients to implement positive change.
  • Strategically and actively manages employment litigation and arbitrations including: selecting outside counsel; negotiating and managing litigation/arbitration budget; overseeing strategy and status of day to day litigation/arbitration activities; drafting document holds and answering discovery; evaluating opportunities for resolution at all stages of disputes; reviewing all legal documents and pleadings; attending depositions, court hearings and other proceedings as appropriate; providing timely updates to the General Counsel, business leaders, supervisors and business counsel to ensure alignment on strategies for litigation and settlements; negotiating and recommending settlement terms and obtaining authority for settlement.
  • Partners with Ethics and Corporate Security to provide legal support on internal investigations and to ensure that legal questions and concerns raised through the Ethics Helpline are appropriately addressed.
  • Provides oversight and case management of ethics case investigations involving alleged labor and employment legal concerns.
  • Establishes and maintains relationships, credibility, and trust with clients, stakeholders, legal team members and other colleagues.
  • Supervises work, provides direction and helps develop staff in employment paralegal and ethic analyst roles.

  • Minimum Requirements

    * 3-8 years of labor and employment experience required.
    * J.D. required from an accredited law school and must be licensed to practice law in TX
    * Prefer candidate with experience in counseling clients on labor and employment matters.
    * Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including ability to communicate effectively with diverse individuals at all levels and areas within the organization
    * Strong work ethic and a self- starter ready to hit the ground running
    * Demonstrated problem-solving abilities
    * Some travel may be required
