Job Description


Large Manufacturer in Monmouth County Looking for a Director of Purchasing
Manages plans, organizes, and directs the work of the Corporate Purchasing Department, and has primary responsibility for negotiating contracts for company's key materials, services, and capital equipment. Develops, recommends, and implements strategic sourcing initiatives to ensure company provides the required level of service at the least cost. Manages the Sourcing/Procurement infrastructure (supplier performance and certification process, RFQ Process, in-bound freight, supplier contracts, supplier payment process, purchasing controls)
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned. Manage the daily operations of the Purchasing Department to ensure material and service requirements are supported across all sites.
Provide Corporate-Wide Procurement Leadership focused on securing supply with reliable suppliers evaluated by a formal supplier rating system, at the least cost, at required/high service levels, low Inventory Days of Supply, and continuous improvement initiatives.
Develop and maintain a high performance culture in the function that supports continuous improvement in the areas of Cost reduction, Inventory Days of Supply, A/P terms, and accountability. Develop and implement a centralized sourcing/procurement framework, where applicable.
Recruit, and develop key talent and appropriately manage under performers to ensure success of all individuals in the department.
Lead (initially) and develop internal resources that support formal supplier evaluations, RFQ process, price/contract negotiation, and supplier selection.
Prepare, administer, and manage departmental budget on an annual basis.

  • Provides support to Executive Management by advising of any unusual trends in quality, delivery or costs. Work with other departments effectively during investigations of quality issues, inventory issues, material handling complaints and process improvements.


Drive operational purchasing excellence & execute CEI commodity strategy for assigned materials/components/ products and/or suppliers and ensure full compliance with purchasing reporting, procedures and guidelines
Develop, manage and execute a Corporate sourcing strategy that meets the changing business requirements and environment
Improve supplier performance and mitigate supply risk via risk assessment and mitigation plan
Provide required level of service at the least cost through centralizing resources, where applicable.

  • Demonstrated ability to work independently in a fast paced manufacturing environment with a high degree of emphasis on accountability for customer service levels, inventory management, cost reduction and quality/GMP or IS09001 compliance e Experience with ERP systems and working knowledge of MRP or other planning systems.
  • Ability to communicate effectively as required. Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong follow-up, follow through, organizational and multi-tasking skills in a fast paced environment.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

  • B.A. or B.S degree in Supply Chain, Logistics, Operations, Business; MBA preferred
  • 8-10 years of relevant Purchasing/Supply Chain experience with 3-5 years of management experience
  • Working knowledge of the functions of plant, distribution, production, procurement, quality, planning processes, inventory management and the ability to collaborate in a fast-paced environment.
  • Experience working in a fast paced, high mix environment
  • Experience sourcing components and/or raw materials (chemicals) in the cosmetic, health care, pharmaceutical or consumer packaged goods


COMPUTER SKILLS

  • Must have experience with ERP manufacturing systems and working knowledge of MRP.
  • MS Office proficiency, including strong MS Excel analysis skills. Good telephone and email communication skills.
