Job Description

SNI Financial is partnered with a growing real estate company that is looking for a Controller to join their team. The company manages over 55 buildings in major neighborhoods of downtown Chicago. The Controller will be responsible for overseeing all accounting operations, prepare reports, analyze monthly budgets, and manage one direct report. The Controller will play a major role in helping the CEO grow the company by providing strategic guidance in the accounting department.


  • Oversee all corporate accounting functions and ensure deadlines are being met
  • Partner with the public accounting firm on a monthly basis to review corporate and entity financial statements
  • Prepare and deliver monthly financial reporting packages
  • Prepare reports that relate to corporate activities and analyze company performance, monthly budgets vs. actual, bank reconciliations, balance sheet, and the P&L.
  • Improve processes and procedures within the accounting department
  • Lead and perform property and fund accounting responsibilities
  • Oversee accounts receivable and accounts payable
  • Research questions regarding owner/tenant statement and charges
  • Review and approve tenant charges, maintenance charges, and non-recurring charges
  • Work closely with the CEO, Property Manager, and Accounts Payable Analyst
  • Manage one direct report in the accounting department
  • Assist with general operations and billing


  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting
  • CPA or Masters in Accountancy is preferred
  • 6+ years of accounting experience in the real estate industry
  • Experience preparing financial reporting packages
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and property management software (Buildium, MRI, Yardi)
  • Excellent attention to detail and ability to streamline accounting processes
  • Team player attitude and professional communication skills
