Test Stand Fabrication / Welder / Mechanic
Direct Report to – Chief Engineer/ CEO
SUMMARY
Seeking a test stand fabricator / welder / mechanic to join our team. In this role, you will use various techniques to build weldment frame, piping and tubing assemblies for ¼” to 24” OD in various metals such as aluminum, stainless steel and carbon steel. Mechanical assembly skills for pipe fittings, tube fittings, valve, heat exchanger installation and other mechanical items to build our custom test stand equipment. Tools include welding equipment (TIG, MIG), light machining, band saws, plasma cutting, tube bending, tube flaring, tube flanging, drilling, tapping and grinding. Fabrication of mechanical assemblies from technical drawings and schematics. You must be able to read technical drawings and perform layouts as required to ensure each project is completed correctly. Applicants should have welding and fabrications experience from a trade school or field experience in fabrication, although we are willing to train the right candidate with a strong work ethic and good baseline of metal fabrication skills. All applicants must also be able to pass a drug screening.
The test stand fabricator / welder role supports both internal and external roles.
TEST STAND FABRICATOR / WELDER / MECHANIC ROLES and RESPONSIBILITIES
Welding:
  • Prior experience welding, preferably in a manufacturing environment
    • Familiar with common welding tools and procedures, including MIG welding, TIG welding, metal fabricating, grinding, and finishing metals.
    • Ability to stand, crouch, and occasionally lift heavy equipment.
    • Blueprint reading and knowledge of common welding symbols.
    • Welding with multiple processes (TIG, MIG) for frame weldments and piping assemblies using Carbon steel, Stainless Steel and Aluminum.
    • Experience fitting and welding pressurized for piping and tube.
    • Experience with fabrication equipment, i.e. plasma cutter, band saw, drill press, pipe or tube bender, Bridgeport milling machine, Hand tools, drilling and tapping.
    • Attention to detail.
    • Able to interpret basic blueprints and layout schematics.
    • Basic math and layout skills
Pipe / Tube Fit up:
  • Written and verbal skills to communicate and applicable math skills.
    • Knowledge and expertise of the piping trade and familiarity with all applicable piping standards, materials, and applications.
    • Knowledge of pipe fitting techniques, methods, procedures, and ability to read drawings, including isometric drawings and blueprints, plan and elevation drawings and sketches.
    • Experience with piping materials such as carbon steel, PVC, stainless, etc.
    • Ability to use a variety of tools and techniques such as pipe threading, tube flange, tube flaring, weld fit up, pipe fitting installations, etc.
    • Experienced with cutting, bending and installing stainless-steel tubing ranging from ¼” to 2” diameter.
    • Soldering, brazing techniques
    • Clean piping and tubing before and after welding to ensure no FOD and clean welds.

    1. Assembly:
    • Maintain and operate tube bending equipment.
    • Install and remove tooling on tube bending equipment.
    • Adjust machine and tooling in order to bend properly.
    • Working knowledge of hydraulic tubing benders, ferrule seaters and flaring tools
    • Ability to calculate basic mathematical problems.
    • Safely operate the machinery
    • Inspect tube or pipe from bending, flaring or flanging operation to ensure accuracy and quality.
    • Installing and mounting of heat exchanger, valves, controls valves, pipe flanges (150# to 2500#) , pumps and motor assemblies, strainers, filters ect.
    • Installing of fittings of various types: JIC, NPT, Compression fittings, Block flanges, ORB and ORFS ect.
    • Wrenches, screwdrivers, ratchet/socket tools
    • SST tube cutters and benders
    • Measuring devices
    • Hole punch tools
    • Deburring tools (metal)
    • Counter Sinks and tapping tools.
    • Maintain a clean and organized work area.
